But first, here is some background about the man known as "Magnum":

At the age of 8 Wayan Winasa was an orphan living on the streets of Bali. He sold newspapers in a bus shelter. From this humble beginning he has grown into a successful transport operator, renowned for his courtesy and friendliness through experiences with thousands of tourists over the last 30 years...

But as an 8 year old, the income he earned selling newspapers, and also working hard in the rice fields, enabled him to pay for his school fees. After high school graduation at the age of 18, he sold ice-creams along Kuta Beach using his old push bike to ride from his village to Kuta every day. He sold ice-creams for the next 8 years, learning to speak fluent English, and soon his many tourist friends nicknamed him “Magnum” after his most popular brand of ice-cream.

After selling ice-creams he became a member of the Kuta Beach Life Guard Volunteering Services. To support his financial situation he hired a surf board to give surf lessons for the next four years.

In 1993 Wayan then started his own tour business using his popular name “Magnum Bali Tours”. He now owns two shops in Kuta, and three luxurious, modern, air-conditioned vehicles which he uses for his tours.
